Three red Rhônes made by Olivier Cuilleras at La Guintrandy in Visan, part of Patrimoine de Terroirs
Le Deves 2012 Bright purple in the glass with dark fruit and oaky spice; there is a blast of pure black cherry fruit with vanilla, cool mint and spice; fresh, with a supple, inky, slightly custardy texture. Warming spice and some gentle firmness on the finish. Good.
Match with salamis or game such as duck or pheasant.
Cairanne 2012 a blast of dark cherry and elderberry fruit, warming peppery spice and freshness. Supple texture, great savouriness and old-vine concentration. Very Good.
Match with venison steak.
Cuvee Louise Amelie 2012 still youthful and closed up, darkly inky with dark fruits and spice; textured and substantial. Needs either aeration or, better, several years' bottle aging to mature and open up.
Very Good.
Match with roast red meat darker game.
